Dog Parkour

This is a new and very fascinating sport and activity that you can do with your dog.

Parkour is a physical activity where dogs learn to interact with their environment.

Dogs get introduced to the world of jumping, climbing, balancing over, crawling under, and going around different obstacles in their everyday world.

Parkour helps with confidence and overcoming fears, and it is a low impact but challenging activity for any canine athlete. That’s why parkour is for all dogs, no matter the breed, age, or activity level.

Here’s another reason why dog parkour is an amazing sport. Dog parkour can be trained absolutely anywhere! Do you live in a city? -Not a problem. Maybe you like to go to hikes with your dog? -Great! It is only your own imagination that limits your creativity and training.

The things that you see in your environment, such as trees, bins, benches or sign posts will be incorporated in your training by encouraging your dog to interact with different things in its environment in a positive and fun way will boost your dog’s confidence massively!

You can greatly improve your dog’s general and fine motor skills. This means that your dog will have more control and awareness of its own body and how to use it (Helton, 2007). Often, dogs do not realise that they have a hind body, and they can therefore find it difficult to balance on different objects or walk backwards. Training dog parkour will greatly increase these skills.

In our Parkour classes, we will cover all safety requirements and embrace the International Dog Parkour Association's (IDPKA) philosophy of being safe, having fun, letting the dog choose, and building confidence.

Introduction to Parkour will take place indoors and we will teach the dogs all of the novice parkour behaviors (4 Feet On, 2 Feet On, Moving Obstacle, Under, Through, In, Over, Around, Balance, Wait on Obstacle, Back up) before we head outside and interact with the environment.
